Why using PeaZip

Flexibility
PeaZip can deploy fast compression in ZIP and TAR.GZ formats, or very efficient speed / high compression ratio tradeoff in 7Z, BZ or ARC formats, or even highest levels of compression using PAQ family algorithms.
For any use PeaZip will help you in finding the better tool, since in compression field it doesn't exists a single best tool for all, but rather exist many good tools each fitting at best specific user's needs.

Compatibility
PeaZip can handle many archive and compression formats both from Windows and Unix worlds, ranging from mainstream TAR and ZIP formats to experimental ones like PAQ/LPAQ. It is a reliable solution for most of the archive types you may met.

Portability
You can use PeaZip on all Windows version and on Linux with basically the same features and look and feel: you can rely on the same archive utility on multiple systems and desktop environments. PeaZip is also available as standalone application, so you can even bring it with you whith no need to install it.

Security
PeaZip is focused on security and supports multiple encrypted archive formats:
7Z, with AES256 encryption;
FreeARC's ARC, with AES256, Blowfish, Twofish256 and Serpent256 encryption;
PEA, with AES256 authenticated encryption #EAX mode#;
ZIP with WinZip's AE encryption based on AES256.
Moreover ARC format protects archives against corruption employing recovery records.

Free as in freedom
PeaZip is free of charge, and also free as in freedom since it's Open Source and contains exclusively Open Source components released under OSI approved licenses.

Usage

PeaZip features a powerful file and archive browser with bookmarks, search and history features for intuitive navigation in filesystem and in archive's content, and allows to apply fine-grained multiple exclusion and inclusion filter rules to archives #a flat view browsing mode is possible as alternative#.
PeaZip allows to create, edit and restore archive's layout for speeding up archiving and backup operation’s definition, and to fine-tune compression and encryption settings of supported archive types.
PeaZip can: handle multiple archives at once; export job definitions as command line #i.e. for learning or scripting purpose# and give a detailed job log after each operation.

User interface is available in different languages #Tools > Settings > Localization#.

PeaZip's most used functions are reachable from SendTo and context menu #Windows#, and from service menus #Linux, KDE# and Nautilus scripts #Linux, Gnome#.
PeaZip for Linux is desktop-neutral so it can be used either under Gnome, KDE or other desktop managers. System integration mechanisms relies on FreeDesktop standards and requires a compliant environment, such Gnome and KDE, but basic archiving operations works on any environment.
PeaZip is tested on various 32 and 64 bit Windows versions #9x, 2000, XP, Vista# and on various 32 and 64 bit Linux distributions.
The software is natively portable and it doesn't need to be installed/unistalled; it can run from any path, even remote #a writeable path is recommended to allow keeping a peristent randomness collector# or removable, as an USB key. However for ease of use PeaZip is also available as installable package for Windows and Linux, as DEB, RPM, TGZ.

PeaZip can be used from GUI and from scripts as well; the GUI supports different customisable icon themes.
